FAQ

General

What is a giclée art print and what does this mean for the quality?

Open tab

“Giclée” refers to a high standard of printing where the art prints are produced using pigment based inks and archival, cotton rag paper. Prints of this high quality will typically last for at least 25 years without fading or yellowing. Due to the cotton rag nature of the paper it is not unusual to see small white dots on the prints. The white dots are usually only noticeable on very close inspection, and are generally not noticeable when framed behind glass and hung. The colours on our prints are surprisingly vibrant and we have received a huge amount of praise for the quality of the prints. It took us nearly a year to find the printer we wanted to work with and we are incredibly proud of the results.

Are the prints delicate?

Open tab

You do need to handle any prints you purchase carefully. Giclée prints are printed with a very fine spray of ink over the paper surface, so throughout the framing process or when unpacking your prints do not touch the surface of the print at all. You could easily scratch or scuff the design. We cannot be held responsible for any damage done to prints once they are in your care.

What are ‘A’ paper sizes?

Open tab

The A series of paper sizes is an international standard, used widely in the UK, Europe and many other countries internationally.

You can find more information about this on our print sizes page.

Do you have any tips for framing?

Open tab

Yes indeed we do! Visit our dedicated page which recommends some framers we work with plus general things to think about when choosing a frame.

Can I order a custom print size?

Open tab

Yes we are happy to accommodate different dimensions to the standard sizes offered. Please get in touch to let us know your request and we can provide a quote. Any custom sizes will be added to our monthly print order from our supplier and so delivery times for custom orders will be longer than our usual service.

Can I order a custom design?

Open tab

At quieter times we can accommodate requests for custom design work, past examples include changing the colour of the surfer’s hair or surfboard. Larger projects such as depicting a friend’s surf van and also replicating a client’s photo of their favourite beach at sunset in our style have also been undertaken. If you have a design in mind and some reference photos please get in touch. We will quote based on the standard price of the print size you want plus £15 an hour for the design time.

Can you trim down the white border?

Open tab

Yes where some customers have needed a small amount trimmed off the white border we have been happy to do this. Just contact us before you order to double check this is possible for the design and size you would like. If not possible we can advise on ordering in a custom size print.

Stock Levels

What should I do if the print I want is out of stock?

Open tab

We usually re-stock our prints once per month.  If the print you want to buy is not in stock in the size you want, please contact us and we can advise you when it will be back in stock.

How do I order an A1 or A0 size?

Open tab

Please contact us with your location so we can give you a quote for the print and postage costs. When packaged the prints are larger than a standard parcel size and so incur increased postage costs, especially when posting outside of the UK. Once the price is confirmed we will send you a link to purchase the print through.

Do you ship worldwide?

Open tab

Yes, we ship internationally to a limited number of countries. When ordering to a country outside of the UK, the buyer is responsible for any customs duties, VAT, import taxes or courier handling fees that may apply on delivery.

Customs in the destination country have the right to hold items for checking and neither Royal Mail nor the Single Fin Collective can influence the time it takes to clear customs in the destination country. Please see our shipping policy for more details.

How much do you charge for delivery?

Open tab

The cost of shipping varies between £8.50 to £14.95 depending on the country you are in. Free shipping is automatically applied on any international orders over £100 for standard items. What are the changes since Brexit for European orders?

Open tab

Since the UK's exit from the European Union, free movement of goods has ceased and a trade agreement between the UK and the EU is now in effect.

This means that for orders under €150 customers are likely to be charged import tax of between 19% and 25% of the order value plus a handling fee from the postal service/courier.

For orders over €150, customers are likely to be charged import tax (between 19-25% of the order value), a handling fee from the courier and an additional customs charge.

The buyer is responsible for any customs duties, VAT, import taxes or courier handling fees that may apply on delivery. The prices you see on our website do not include these additional import fees.

Refunds and Returns

Christmas Delivery

What is the last shipping date for UK orders?

Open tab

We would recommend ordering before 17th December 2021. Once we have posted an order we cannot influence how quickly Royal Mail will deliver. If the item has not been delivered 10 working days after the due date then we can contact Royal Mail for an investigation and compensation.

What is the last shipping date for orders outside of the UK?

Open tab

For international postage to Europe, Australia, the US and other countries outside of the UK, shipping can take 2-4 weeks due to the volume of post in the system around Christmas time, with some parcels taking longer if they are stopped at customs. For this reason we would recommend ordering before the end of November. It's impossible to predict how long shipping may take with so many variables in each country and we would advise that you check the tracking information provided with your order for any updates from the courier company. You can also check for country specific information via Royal Mail's website.

What are your closure days over Christmas?

Open tab

We will be taking a break between 18th - 28th December 2021. Any orders placed over this period will be held until we're back from our holiday and posted when we return. Orders will be posted in late December or early January and will be prioritised based on the date the order was placed. We will be a little slow to answer messages and emails over this period as we aim to take a proper break from the business, we will respond to you as soon as we can though.

Please note that we are currently not shipping to the EU due to uncertainties over how shipping will be affected by Brexit and the UK's trade deal with the EU. We hope to restore EU shipping once new shipping processes from the UK to the EU are made clear in the coming months.
